SWEET ESCAPES TO CANADA

One of the many fun escapes we enjoy in the Pacific Northwest is a trip to British Columbia. The border was closed for years during the Covid Pandemic. Finally, we are traveling to the places we used to love!

Our first trip was at Christmas time to Harrison Hot Springs Village. It is nestled amidst stunning mountains and forests on the southern shore of Harrison Lake. The main attraction of the village is, of course, the hot springs. The mineral-rich hot springs are believed to have therapeutic properties, offering relaxation and wellness benefits.

While we were rejuvenating in the hot springs at Christmas, it was snowing.

Dinner and dancing in the evenings.

We have also been to Harrison in the summertime. The surrounding areas provide incredible, scenic hiking trails. We kayaked on the lake, swam, and played at the largest floating water park in Canada, open June through September.

A visit to Harrison Hot Springs Village in BC provides a perfect blend of relaxation, natural beauty, and outdoor activities. Whether you seek a peaceful getaway or an adventure filled escape, the village has something to offer for every type of traveler!

Our second escape was to Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Visiting the Malahat Skywalk was a unique experience, offering stunning panoramic views. It is located near the Malahat Summit of Vancouver Island, about 35 minutes north of Victoria. Perched high above the temperate forest canopy, it provides views of the Saanich Peninsula, Gulf Islands, and Mount Baker.

One of the main attractions is the elevated canopy walkway, which takes you through the lush coastal rainforest. This walkway allows you to experience the forest from a unique perspective, with platforms suspended high above the ground.

At the heart of the Skywalk, you'll find a spiral tower that takes you even higher above the forest canopy. Rising ten stories, guests can enjoy 360-degree views of islands, inlets, fjords, forests and mountains in two countries. It is accessible by all ages and wheelchair-friendly. An adventure net suspended partially across the center of the Spiral Tower provides daring guests with another breathtaking perspective. To return to the ground, take the gradual ramps down or take an exhilarating ride down a 65 foot spiral slide!

The site includes a visitor center and cafe. A visit to the Malahat Skywalk is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for nature enthusiasts, a family looking for adventure, or someone seeking a peaceful escape!

Another breathtaking experience while you are on Vancouver Island is the 55 acres of the Butchart Gardens. In the Spring, countless tulips, daffodils and hyacinths will give you a buffet of fragrances and colors. You'll be saying "WOW" when you experience their summer rose garden, evening entertainment, subtle night illuminations, the Saturday firework show, and boat tours.

Christmas is also magical with its decorations, expansive lighting and outdoor ice skating rink. Top off your day at the gardens with a ride on the carousel, a great meal, and the fireworks!

Our last escape was to the center of the city of Vancouver, BC. We stayed at the Pan Pacific Hotel in February. Positioned over the convention center gave us a luxurious and scenic experience. Cruise ships dock and set sail right from the view of your room or the hotel's observation decks. Upon arriving, we were greeted by the hotel's elegant and modern lobby. Our room was sophisticated, with panoramic views of the city, the harbor, and the iconic Stanley Park.

We had a relaxing soak in the spa and enjoyed a swim in the rooftop pool (85 degrees), open year-around, rain or shine or snow!

While in Vancouver, the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park offers a thrilling experience! The bridge spans across the Capilano River, providing a unique and exhilarating adventure.

Being there in February, we enjoyed their spectacular "Love Lights" display. We went during the late afternoon in the daylight and stayed until it was lit up at night.

This is a cliff walk where you are hanging out over the valley. You can see the suspension bridge lit up in pink in the background.

This was definitely the highlight of our trip! Thrill-seekers and anyone, looking to appreciate the stunning landscapes of Vancouver's coastal rainforest, would consider this a perfect experience.

Make your escape and enjoy what British Columbia, Canada has to offer!
